HIKE SUGARLOAF SKI RESORT
Explore one of Michigan's most scenic abandoned treasures. Deserted since 2000, this former ski resort offers some of the best views on the Leelanau Peninsula.

LEVEL: Intermediate (Some effort, moderate activity and/or accessibility issues)
TIME: Short (2 hours or less)
ACCESSIBILITY: Intermediate (parking on site, accesibility issues).
THINGS TO DO:
Hiking, hammocking, sunsets
WHEN TO GO: Anytime, just be prepared for what the weather has to throw at you.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From Traverse City, take M-72 E. After 6.7 miles, hang a right onto S Cedar Hwy. 9.4 miiles later, turn west (left) onto E Bodus Rd. 0.8 miles later, turn right onto Townline Rd, and turn left onto S Sugarloaf Mountain Rd soon after that.
WHAT TO BRING: You won't need much besides some good shoes and a camera! Hammocks are of course a welcome bonus.
OPTIONAL SIDE TREK: Instead of a hike to the top, road bike the back side of the mountain off of M-22 for a quad burning climb. The scenic overview is well worth the sweat and tears on the top and will direct you into Leelanau’s pristine bike friendly roadways.
KICK IT UP A NOTCH: This old ski hill provides some hardcore fresh powder for some amazing backcountry skiing and snowboarding if you're up for the challenge. Or, kick it down a notch and enjoy a round of Golf with your friends at the well known Manitou Passage Golf Club.
TIPS: If you're looking for a relaxing spot to take in the views of Leenalau county, look no further. Sugarloaf was recently purchased and rumors are that it will be reopening in a couple of years, so experience the history before it’s too late.
